As You Progress Through The Program
The Day Hospital runs from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. As you progress through the program you will start to have days off to practice independent eating in a less supervised setting. You will learn relapse-prevention skills and develop a discharge plan for your return to home life, and will work closely with medical, nursing, occupational therapy and dietician staff providing meal support. You will gradually spend increasing time outside the hospital living at the Jefferson House and will have daily opportunities to practice your new healthy eating skills and to troubleshoot problems before leaving the structured hospital environment to return home.
How Long Does A Php Program Last
Partial hospitalization programs can vary in length based on the center providing care and a persons unique needs. A person may attend the program anywhere from five to seven days a week for a time period of 6 to 10 hours a day. Some people may participate for two weeks while others may choose to continue in the program for many weeks. A person can ask their intake counselor about how long they may expect to stay in the partial hospitalization program, all with the knowledge that they could require more or less time depending upon their progress.

What Is Php Eating Disorder Treatment 4 Key Components Of Care

PHP is short for Partial Hospitalization Program and is also known as DTP or Day Treatment Program. It provides access to a structured, safe treatment environment for those suffering from eating disorders who need more support than standard outpatient therapy offers but are not in need of a full residential experience.
PHP creates a therapeutic community, where relationships are developed based on mutual sharing and support.

The Patient’s Role In Therapy
A combination of individual, group and family therapy emphasizes recovery skills and the role of families in lasting recovery. For those patients stepping down from 24-hour care, there is a shift in therapeutic focus from what is happening on the unit with you and other patients in the milieu to what is happening with your family when you are not on the unit. Patients continue to participate in school in the afternoons at the Learning Center.
Other Levels Of Care Offered At Eating Disorder Solutions
At Eating Disorder Solutions in Texas, we offer a full spectrum of recovery services. Our comprehensive levels of care support continuity for our clients, ensuring that they get the extensive treatment and tools that they need to support long-term recovery.
Each eating disorder treatment program represents a direct-admit level of care, as well as a step-down level of care as clients move toward recovery. As clients step down to lower levels of care, they have more independence and opportunities to practice skills they learned during their treatment sessions in everyday life. Aside from our partial hospitalization eating disorder program, we offer:
- Residential program: Our highest level of care and a live-in program with nurses who provide care and supervision 24-hours a day.
- Intensive outpatient program : A step down from PHP which includes three hours of therapy on three days of the week.
How long individuals stay in each level of care is based on their situations and progress in therapy. While some individuals may stay in a program for a few weeks, others may need treatment for months. Our experienced team of professionals will provide recommendations for each individual based on the severity of the eating disorder.

Disclaimer about “overeating”: Within Health hesitatingly uses the word “overeating” because it is the term currently associated with this condition in society, however, we believe it inherently overlooks the various psychological aspects of this condition which are often interconnected with internalized diet culture, and a restrictive mindset about food. For the remainder of this piece, we will therefore be putting “overeating” in quotations to recognize that the diagnosis itself pathologizes behavior that is potentially hardwired and adaptive to a restrictive mindset.
Outpatient Vs Inpatient Mental Health
Dual diagnosis is a large part of some peoples recovery journey. Mental health issues and addiction are often very deeply connected, and treating the underlying cause of both conditions at the same time, in integrated treatment programs is the best way to break the cycle of using substances to control symptoms of mental illness, ultimately becoming even more unwell.
Some of the most common co-occurring disorders include:
- Suicidal tendencies
Some people have a genetic predisposition that leads to addiction and mental illness, and others develop a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes these issues to occur or worsen over time.
Drugs and alcohol can also interfere with prescription medications you are already taking for your mental health, and using substances to mask symptoms of conditions like social anxiety or major depression can cause those issues to worsen. You will lose confidence in your own abilities to handle stress and difficult situations without substance abuse, and you will not gain the coping tools you need to get through stressful times. Drowning your sorrows in alcohol may cause depressive issues to become worse, and using substances to run away from disturbing intrusive thoughts and debilitating trauma will reinforce the avoidance, pushing the issues deeper and strengthening them instead of healing.

What Is Partial Hospitalization Eating Disorder Treatment
A partial hospitalization program falls on the continuum of mental healthcare between residential treatment and intensive outpatient or outpatient treatment. Partial hospital programs typically include individual, family and group counseling, as well as medication management, nutritional counseling and meal supervision.
The main difference between PHP and residential treatment is individuals do not live in the treatment centers, but rather go home each day to the comfort of their beds. This allows clients to receive much of the same structure as residential care during the day as well as the opportunity to begin practicing their skills as they transition to life outside the treatment program.
Why Choose Quantum For Rehab After Work
When you choose Quantum for your outpatient rehab, intensive outpatient program and partial care, you are choosing a facility where your individual needs are put first. We believe that a combination of evidence-based treatments along with holistic care for substance abuse and substance use disorders, for a whole-patient approach to healing is the best way to attain long-term sobriety. You are not just an addiction that needs to be managed, you are a whole person, with your own thoughts, preferences, experiences, and history. Getting to the underlying causes of addiction is as important as treating the physical symptoms of drug or alcohol dependence.

What Is Family Based Treatment

FBT, also known as the Maudsley Approach, is the only evidence based treatment modality for pediatric and adolescent eating disorder treatment. Within this treatment approach, parents play an invaluable, active and positive role in their childâs recovery and return to healthy eating patterns. Parents are considered to be a valuable part of the childâs treatment team and active participants in the program. This includes involvement through attending parent groups, meal coaching, family therapy, and regular communication with other treatment team members including therapists, dieticians, etc.

Examine Your Medical Condition
Patients may be admitted to PHP if they eat solid food, have an average body mass index , and meet specific medical criteria. One requirement is usually the inability to care for oneself adequately. This includes not having the ability to prepare their meals or do their laundry.
Once admitted into the program, patients will work with the team to develop an appropriate treatment plan for their eating disorder. This typically begins with learning how to eat normally and adjusting their meal plans as needed. It may also include recommendations for medications or other supplements to help them recover if they cannot eat enough on their own.

The Parents’ Roles In Therapy
Parents are invited to attend parent groups in the morning and education lectures/discussions in the afternoon, during which time they learn about meal planning and weight restoration, recovery skills, parent empowerment and relapse prevention in a supportive environment of peers. Parental involvement in eating disorder treatment can play a major role in recovery.
Choosing The Right Php For Eating Disorders
It is hard to discuss what the right Partial Hospitalization Program is, as each individual has varying treatment needs. However, some key aspects to look for include:
- Team Approach: Research has long indicated that a multidisciplinary team is the most effective way to treat eating disorders. This means, at minimum, your treatment team should consist of a therapist, registered dietitian, psychiatrist, and primary care doctor.
- Theoretical Approach: The treatment approaches supported most by research are Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Exposure & Response Prevention Therapy, and Family-Based Treatment. Be sure to ask a potential treatment program what approach they use and why.

Why Php Treatment At Magnolia Creek
Many of our clients use the goal of living independently that comes with PHP to motivate them throughout their residential treatment. While they enjoy living at the facility, its hard to beat the comfort of living at home. As part of our Transitional Living Program during PHP, clients begin to reintroduce responsibilities and outside activities they enjoy. With their evenings free, they can do more of what they used to do prior to treatment. Slowly incorporating these activities also helps with the transition from treatment to independent living.

Apa Practice Guideline For The Treatment Of Patients With Eating Disorders
“In determining a patients initial level of care or whether a change to a different level of care is appropriate, it is important to consider the patients overall physical condition, psychology, behaviors, and social circumstances rather than simply rely on one or more physical parameters, such as weight.”
This is a specific attempt to move past weight being the sole determinant of the level of care, which has often been the case.
The APA provides suggested criteria for each level of care. These criteria include:
- Motivation to recover, including cooperativeness, insight, and ability to control obsessive thoughts
- Co-occurring disorders, including substance use, depression, and anxiety
- The need for structure for eating and gaining weight
- Ability to control compulsive exercising
Ideally, treatment should start with the level of care required to manage symptoms and provide the most effective setting for a successful recovery.
Often, and perhaps ideally, people with severe symptoms begin treatment at higher levels of care and gradually step down to lower levels.
The Family’s Role In Therapy

Families receive two family sessions per week and patients continue to meet weekly with their individual clinician. Registered Dietitians meet with parents to provide individualized education and training tailored to the needs of their child. Clinicians and dietitians also facilitate Family Meals, during which families practice eating together again while supporting the patient with meal completion and coping strategies. Multi-family group therapy brings together the milieu of patients and parents for expert-guided experiential and skills groups.

Ial Hospitalization Programs For Eating Disorders
Partial hospitalization, or PHP, is designed for people with eating disorders who require a significant amount of structure and support to manage their emotions and behaviors, but who do not require the 24-hour supervision of a residential or hospital setting.
Our PHP program operates five days per week and offers up to forty hours of treatment per week, between the hours of 8am and 4pm. Clients typically attend PHP five days per week and receive comprehensive, clinical, dietary, medical, and psychiatric care by our experienced team of licensed professionals. Clients in PHP receive an initial psychiatric evaluation and weekly monitoring, including medication management and are monitored regularly for medical stability by our registered nurse and physician.
The dietary program at Eden is supervised by a Registered Dietician who works with our clients to restore nutritional health and balance. Two delicious kosher meals and one snack are provided each day, with our dietary and clinical teams providing direct support and supervision before, during, and after eating.
What Are The Risk Factors For Eating Disorders
As with other mental health conditions, the risk of relapse is present. However, this can be lowered by participating in aftercare programs that provide continuing support. Support groups and therapy sessions are often available after leaving treatment to help you deal with triggers that may cause you to return to using unhealthy behaviors.
Other risk factors include:
- Having anxiety issues or a history of depression.
- Disturbed body image.
- Being exposed to bullying, teasing, or criticism about your weight during childhood.
- Low self-esteem and poor self-image.
- Dealing with abuse, trauma, divorce, stress, or other traumatic experiences that cause you to feel anxious or depressed.
When someone succumbs to an eating disorder, its often because they have extremely low self-esteem and feel hopeless about ever being able to recover. Some people with eating disorders have difficulty coping with their problems, so they find comfort in controlling what they eat. Others might suffer from anxiety, stress, or depression thats caused them to turn to food for solace.
