To hold ASHA’s Certificate of Clinical Competence you must have a graduate degree in audiology speech-language pathology speech, language, and hearing science or an allied discipline. State licensure boards for audiologists and speech-language pathologists may require the CCC, or its equivalent, or waive certain requirements for CCC holders.

Through this clinical masters degree program, students are prepared to become speech-language pathologists for work in early intervention, schools, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, community clinics and private practices. SLPs work with children, adolescents and adults who experience a variety of communication and associated disorders.
In this program, you will gain knowledge and skills which are applied directly through hands-on experiences working alongside clinical faculty in the UCF Communication Disorders Clinic. Students learn from SLPs in the community through our robust internship program that includes more than 200 practicum/internship sites throughout the greater Orlando area and the state of Florida. Following completion of the masters degree, some graduates continue on to pursue doctorate degrees.
The Communication Sciences and Disorders masters program consists of a minimum of 72 credit hours, including 38 credit hours of core academic courses, 9 credit hours of electives, and 25 credit hours of clinical practice. Thesis students take 6 credit hours of thesis and one elective course . Most students complete the program in two years.

Jada Miller
Jada Miller, a first-year graduate student in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program at the U of A, was awarded the Benjamin Franklin Lever Tuition Fellowship. This award is highly competitive and only given to qualified students who reflect both the U of A’s commitment to academics and diversity.
Miller graduated in spring of 2020 with an undergraduate degree in communication disorders. Miller reported that she is pursuing a career in speech-language pathology, “because it is my passion to help others, and after taking the Introduction to Communication Disorders course, I know that this was the career path that would allow me to help people and their families in a meaningful way.”
Miller is on track to graduate in May of 2024 and hopes to practice as a speech-language pathologist in Northwest Arkansas upon graduation. “My hopes are to ultimately to start my own private practice one day,” Miller said. Rachel Glade, the program director of the Communication Sciences and Disorders program, stated, “Jada has proven she can persevere, and she is passionate about working with individuals with communication disorders. We have no doubt she will make our program and our profession proud in the future.”

What Are The Requirements To Be Admitted To The Program
An application for admission to the undergraduate program must be submitted to the CSD Program Coordinator on cd.eku.edu. To be eligible to apply for admission in the undergraduate CSD Program, the following minimum criteria must be met:
- 40 semester credit hours completed–Examples of hours “not completed” may be those from which the student withdrew , received an incomplete , or did not pass . Hours must be based on 100-level courses of higher. Developmental or remedial courses such as those numbered 090, 093, and 095 cannot be counted in the 40 hours nor in the GPA.
- GPA of 3.0 overall for the 40 semester credit hours completed
- Minimum ACT composite score of 21
An application for admission to the graduate program must be submitted to the EKU Graduate School. To be eligible to apply for admission in the graduate CSD program, the following minimum criteria must be met:

Many of the clinical programs offered by the Waters College of Health Professions require a clinical internship or practicum experience to fulfill degree requirements. School-Based Setting Emphasis
The school-based setting emphasis prepares candidates to assess and treat preschool through high school students with communication disabilities that adversely affect their academic success. Students will become more familiar with federal and state laws, family counseling, evidence-based practice in articulation and language disorders, autism spectrum disorders, language/literacy delays, attention deficit disorders and augmentative and alternative communication.
Medically Related Conditions Emphasis
The medically related conditions emphasis focuses on the conditions of voice disorder, neuro-physiological syndromes, dysphagia , and stroke rehabilitation, and any injury or illness that results in speech-language impairment.
